Iridium Phone Rentals Technical Requirement:
Portable satellite phones will only operate outside with an unobstructed view of the sky.
Coverage Area:
Iridium rental phones offer excellent world wide coverage, excluding Poland, North Korea, and North Sri Lanka.
Iridium 9500 Model:
The 9500 model is the original Iridium phone and is 7 1/2"x 2 1/2"x 1 1/2" and weighs approximately 14 ounces.
Iridium 9505/9505A Model:
The 9505 model and the 9505A model phones are identical in terms of size, weight and features. The 9505/9505A model phones are the newest phones and are 6 1/2"x 2 1/2"x 1 1/2" in size and weigh approximately 11 ounces. The 9505/9505A offers improved voice quality and reliability when compared to the 9500. All satellite phones are subject to dropped calls, but this will occur less frequently with the 9505/9505A. Rental Period:
Your rental period begins on the day you request the phone to arrive, and ends on the day you ship the phone back to SPD.
Placing a call:
You dial 00 + Country Code + Phone number (the US country code is 1). For example; a call made to a US phone number would look like 00-1-678-555-1212.
Receiving a call:
Receiving direct calls on your satphone (Dial: Int'l Dialing Code + 8816-xxxx-xxxx)
- Calling party pays for calls routed to your satphone, incoming free for you.
- For a voice call from anywhere in the U.S. to your satphone, dial 011-8816-xxxx-xxxx
- The 8816 is a unique Iridium "country code" that is always the same regardless of user location.
- If you are unavailable to receive a call the caller may leave you a voice mail.
- Receiving 2 stage call on your satphone (Dial: 1-480-768-2500; at the prompt 8816-xxxx-xxxx)
- The rental per minute rate will be billed to you, and the caller pays only the long distance rate to area code 480.
- For a voice call from anywhere in the U.S. to your Satphone, dial 1-480-768-2500. At the prompt, enter the 12 digit satellite number and wait for the call to connect.
